Buccleuch Property sold part of the former Tyne Tees Television Studio in Newcastle to Home Group for high quality affordable housing on the quarter of an acre site between Howard Street and City Road.
The project has provided a seven storey residential development, designed by Glasgow based architects Anderson Bell and Christie. The building comprises 30 apartments, 16 of which are for affordable rent and the remaining 14 for shared ownership. The building also included ancillary rooms, circulation areas, parking for 19 cars, 24 cycle spaces and landscaping. The building has been designed to achieve Code for Sustainable Homes Level 3. The development is supported by a £900,000 contribution from the Homes and Communities Agency in order to provide much needed affordable rented and shared ownership apartments. The mixed use site will also accommodate a hotel and a 385 bed student accommodation building.
